Precipitation of Bi and Bi sulfide in borate glasses. H. Itoigawa, T.Kamiyama* and Y.Nakamura** ¡¡Division of Chemistry, School of Science, Hokkaido University, and * Division of Quantum engineering, School of Engineering, Hokkaido University, Sapporo, Japan. Abstract Fine particles of Bi and Bi2S3 formed by precipitation from Na2O-B2O3 glasses has been studied. Bi metal particles were formed by reduction of Bi2O3 by SnO added to the glass matrices. The size of particles was controlled by the annealing time of the sample glasses. Bi2S3 was dissolved in the melts and then precipitated from the quenched glasses. The shape and size of these precipitates were observed by the transmission electron microscope and the microscopic structure was studied by XAFS. Some of the results have been discussed in terms of thermodynamics. ** Present address e-mail:yoshio@public2.east.net.cn University of Science and Technology of Beijing Guanzhuang Campus, Beijing, China |
